The Consulate General of Finland in New York hosted an event yesterday showcasing the Oulu based startups and truly innovative thinking. “The participating companies had prepared dazzling presentations and the companies were regarded highly appealing both by media and investors”, stated BusinessOulu venture financing expert, Ville Heikkinen. The overall offering from Oulu gave a good insight to future business concepts in the fields like mobile applications, clean tech, social media tools with shopping and voting applications. Mobile Brain Bank was invited among the top startups from Oulu at the event celebrating Oulu’s election as one of world’s top 7 intelligent communities of 2012. Finals of this ICF competition are held this Friday.
Says Petra Söderling, CEO and Founder of Mobile Brain Bank:
"It was a great night. The story of Oulu, Capital of Northern Scandinavia resonated well with the New York audience. Our unique combination of nature, talent, technology and uncomplicated human approach to things is something that we can be proud of. Personally, I was happy to see fellow startups to deliver good pitches, also my own presentation was well received. Networking cocktails in New York are always a good way to meet potential customers, investors and partners, and this night was no exception".
To boost the Finnish trade, similar events will be organized also in the future and the importance of local networks becomes crucial when attracting the most relevant audiences. The Director of ICT and Nanotechnology in BusinessOulu, Christian Sundell was especially pleased about the number of business contacts and opportunities that were established during the evening.
