Heidi Fagergolm, Rector of Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk), has been elected Vice-Chair for UAS4EUROPE, a network of European Universities of Applied Sciences. The decision to elect Fagerholm was made at UAS4EUROPE association meeting on March 30.

Based in Brussels, UAS4EUROPE is an association representing European Universities of Applied Sciences – more than 450 universities in 24 countries through its members. A particular emphasis on the association’s promotion of interests is on increasing and developing European research, development, and innovation activities.

The importance of EU funding sources for RDI activities at Universities of Applied Sciences will increase in the coming years. More than 60 per cent of the external RDI funding for these schools comes from EU sources.

– From the perspective of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences, the work done by UAS4EUROPE to increase European RDI funding in the field of applied research and development is of utmost importance, and we wish to introduce our own expertise in the influencing work, Rector Fagerholm says.

Chair Marjolijn Brussaard from Vereniging Hogeschole, the Rectors’ Council of Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences, was elected Chair of the European association. The term of Vice-Chair lasts two years and begins in July this year.
