Nallikari Beach awarded the international Blue Flag certification

Published:

Nallikari Beach has become the second location in Finland to receive the prestigious Blue Flag certification. This international environmental and quality label signifies high environmental standards, safety, and the responsible development of tourism. The other Blue Flag beach in Finland is Yyteri in Pori.

Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised environmental certifications for beaches and tourist destinations. The certification is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and to receive it, a destination must meet strict criteria related to the environment, safety, accessibility, and sustainable tourism.

For tourists, Blue Flag signifies a safe, clean, and responsibly managed environment. Internationally, the label also serves as a quality guarantee and is a sign of a high-quality travel destination for many tourists.

– For us in Nallikari, the Blue Flag certification is a significant international recognition that reinforces the area’s status as a high-quality, safe, and responsibly developing tourist destination, while also raising Oulu’s profile as an internationally attractive seaside city, comments Sirpa Walter, CEO of Nallikari Seaside Oy.

– In Nallikari, responsibility is tangibly evident, for example, in the cleanliness of the environment, water quality monitoring, safety, and efficient services. We want to develop tourism in the long term while respecting the environment and natural values, Walter continues.

Nallikari already offers several sustainability-certified services, such as Green Key certified restaurants and accommodations, as well as Green Activities certified programme services.

Blue Flag further strengthens Nallikari’s position as a year-round tourism and recreation destination and a pioneer of sustainable tourism in Finland.
