City bikes provided by KaaKau Oy have appeared on the streets of Oulu for the summer of 2026. The company already offers city bikes in more than a dozen cities across Finland.
In Oulu, KaaKau has partnered with energy company Oulun Energia. Decisions on whether to continue the service will be made based on the results of this summer’s pilot.
– Oulu will receive just over 100 bikes, which is a good start, and if the operation takes off well, we see potential in Oulu for a significantly larger fleet, says CEO Aleksanteri Repo.
For example, in Turku, the company operates the Fölläri city bike system, which has 700 bikes.
Another key partner is the Centre for Sustainable Development (KeKe), which is responsible for bike maintenance and transfers within the city area. The bikes are used, 5-speed city bikes in good condition, which can be rented affordably via the Donkey Republic app. The hourly rate is €2, and the daily rate is just €12.
According to Repo, if tourism operators or local businesses have their own groups or, for example, team-building days, the bikes can also be reserved in advance. The company also hopes to receive active feedback on the service and its functionality with a view to possible future expansion.
