The municipalities have published the region’s joint investment targets and objectives for tourism. The total amount of investment in Oulu outside the city centre and in the region’s municipalities could top €350 million by 2030.
The investments are part of the Oulu region’s tourism development masterplan, which aims to achieve more than a million tourist nights in the region by 2030. The aim is to strengthen the region as an international tourist destination and develop it as a centre for tourism in the north.
The implementation of the masterplan will be guided and monitored by a regional tourism and attractiveness working group. The municipalities of the Oulu region – Hailuoto, Ii, Kempele, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos, Oulu and Tyrnävä – are aiming for year-round and international tourism growth.
The attractiveness of the region is based on diverse, natural and sustainably growing destinations. The published investment material on tourism destinations offers tourism operators and investors highly accessible and business-friendly options.
The biggest investment sites are Zeniitti in Kempele, Nallikari and Virpiniemi in Oulu, the Ruutikangas Shooting Sports and Events Centre in Liminka and Lumijoki, and Marjaniemi in Hailuoto. The Park Hotel in Liminka, the Vihkosaari area in Ii, the Meijerikatu area in Tyrnävä and the Kirkkosaari area in Muhos are also excellent opportunities for investment and location of tourism services.
The degree of readiness of the sites varies, with several sites ready to start immediately and some still having the possibility to influence the design of the sites.
