Harriet Urponen to become Communications Director

The City of Oulu Board has elected Harriet Urponen as the City’s new Communications Director. She has been working as Communications Director of the Parish Council since January 2023.

Harriet Urponen, who is originally from Rovaniemi but has lived in Oulu for a long time, has been working as the Parish Council’s Communications Director since January 2023. Previously, she has worked as special assistant to Bishop Jukka Keskitalo, communications manager of the Rovaniemi parish and as a communications entrepreneur. She holds a Master’s degree in Education.

– The decision was made unanimously among a group of highly qualified applicants. We trust the Communications Director’s professionalism, leadership and way of renewing the city’s communications, says Mirja Vehkaperä, Chair of the City Board.

– The Communications Director will lead the City of Oulu’s communications, marketing and advocacy efforts. The Communications Director will also be a member of the City’s Steering Group and will lead the new Communications and Advocacy Unit, says Mayor Ari Alatossava.

The post of Communications Director was open for applications in February. After interviews, Mrs. Urponen was shortlisted alongside BusinessOulu Liaison Manager Juuso Rönnholm and City of Oulu Project Manager Karri Oikarinen.

The office of Communications Director has a probationary period of six months.
