Summer job voucher

If you are a young person aged 15–17 from Oulu, you can get a summer work voucher from the City of Oulu. Summer job vouchers will be distributed through schools before week 10.

You will receive a summer job voucher if

  • your home municipality is Oulu and
  • you were born between May 1, 2008, and April 30, 2011.

With the voucher, you can apply for summer jobs in Oulu, Hailuoto, Ii, Kempele, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos, Pudasjärvi, Tyrnävä, Utajärvi, and Vaala for the summer season from May 1 to September 30, 2026.The summer job voucher employment lasts two weeks and the working time is 30 hours per week or 60 hours in total during the summer period.

Permissible summer job voucher employers include:

  • companies
  • associations
  • organisations
  • clubs or foundations

The employer must have a Finnish business ID. With a summer job voucher, you cannot be employed by a city, municipality, or government agency, or by a private individual (e.g., your own family or grandparents).

The summer job voucher is personal. You can use one voucher during summer 2026. The voucher cannot be used at the same time with other summer job schemes targeted at young people (e.g. the “Discover working life and earn” (Tutustu työelämään ja tienaa) scheme, apprenticeship, or other similar model).

The summer job voucher is worth 400 € and it is a subsidy to your employer for your salary costs. The subsidy is paid to the employer retrospectively. The employer must pay you a salary in accordance with the collective agreement. The salary must be at least equal to the minimum salary required for the employment condition. The employer is responsible for a portion of the salary costs. If there is no collective agreement in the sector you work in, the employer must pay you the minimum salary in accordance with the employment condition in the Unemployment Security Act (Employment Contracts Act, Chapter 2, Section 10). In 2026, the minimum salary included in the employment condition must be at least €1,463 per month.

If you are studying in another municipality, you can ask for a summer job voucher from the summer job team or Byströmin Ohjaamo (tel. 050 599 2293).

Here’s what to do:

  1. Apply for a summer job voucher position. You can also check out open summer job voucher positions on the BusinessOulu website or search for positions on the Job Market Finland website.
  2. Sign a written employment contract with your employer (note that a summer job voucher is not an employment contract). Read the employment contract carefully before signing it. Check that the employment contract includes
    • the employee’s information and bank account number
    • start and end date of the employment
    • place of work
    • job duties and work shifts
    • amount of salary and date of salary payment
  3. Start your summer job and give your employer the original summer job voucher, tax card, and your bank account number (check that the account number is correct). Fill in your details on the summer job voucher.
  4. At the end of the summer job, your employer will pay you your salary. Remember to check your account details to ensure that you have received the salary specified in your employment contract on the payday (in addition to your basic salary, you will have been paid possible holiday pay plus evening and weekend bonuses for hours worked). Summer job voucher salaries are paid in accordance with the collective agreement for the sector. If your employer hires you for more than 60 hours, you must be paid the salary specified in the collective agreement for the sector for the excess hours.
  5. Remember to ask your employer for a work certificate when your summer job ends.
