Polar Bear Pitching - The coolest start-up event ever on the globe

Fearless start-ups will pitch in icy water in Northern Finland on Feb 7th 2014

Polar Bear Pitching, an unparalleled pitching contest, takes place in Oulu, Northern Finland on Feb 7th 2014. The event offers literally the coolest stage on the globe for the start-ups; a hole cut through the ice. Start-ups will pitch as long as they can in freezing cold water surrounded by ice, snow, temperature way below freezing. Luckily, the Finns will also bring a sauna close by for warming up the avid speakers.

This is not a mumbo jumbo, but serious business evidenced by the fact that one of the pitching companies, Laturi Corporation rehearses their pitch by going to the icy water every day and also keeps a training diary in their company website. They have good reasons to do so, because there will be VC’s present, which investment capital is totally over 200 million euros.

There will be around 20 pitching companies from Finland and Russia participating at the event. The pitches will be filmed, streamed live, and broadcasted via social media to the widest audiences all over the world. In the event’s website, there is the direct link to livestream broadcast, whereof all the pitches can be followed.

The pitching companies are aiming both to international markets and rapid growth in their business; to them possibilities for 1-on-1 investor meetings and introductions are available. There will be at least six VC’s present, which witnesses international VC’s genuine interest towards the event.

After the actual pitching contest, the evening party, with the award ceremony of the best pitches will be held. Moreover, program will include high profile keynotes from speakers like Marc Dillon, co-founder and the first CEO of Jolla.

Polar Bear Pitching is part of the bigger Midnight Pitch Fest start-up event being held in Oulu, Finland, on the 12th-13th June 2014. Midnight Pitch Fest was organized last year in August for the first time. It attracted over 1200 participants, 70 start-ups, 50+ invertors, and visionary key note speakers. This year our goal is to make it bigger in every way.

On 7th Feb will be organised a press conference, where media representatives have possibility to interview, among others, companies, who will jump into the icy water. The press conference will be held at 9.30 am in Business Kitchen, Torikatu 23, 90100 Oulu, 4th floor.
