Press Release, publishable Dec 16, 2013
Fearless start-ups will pitch in icy water in Northern Finland on Feb 7th 2014.
Besides being known as one of the world’s leading centers in wireless technology, and for its blooming IT, health tech, and gaming industry, Oulu, is also ranked as one of best cities in the world for start-up companies by the Fortune magazine (2012). Once again they have invented something totally new and revolutionary: this time it is the coolest event ever, Polar Bear Pitching.
Polar Bear Pitching, an unparalleled pitching contest, takes place in Oulu, The Capital of Northern Scandinavia in Northern Finland on Feb 7th 2014. The event offers literally the coolest stage on the globe for the start-ups; a hole cut through the ice. Start-ups will pitch as long as they can in freezing cold water surrounded by ice, snow, temperature way below freezing, international audience, and investors. The pitches will be filmed, streamed, and broadcast via social media to the widest audiences all over the world. Naturally, the Finns will also bring a sauna close by for warming up the avid speakers.
Registration for companies is now open, and to them possibilities for 1-on-1 investor meetings and introductions, prizes, and the coveted title “Coolest Roar 2014” are available. Fearless start-ups with spicy attitude from all over the world are welcome. The award ceremony will be one of the program highlights of the evening party, yet there will also be plenty of surprise elements during the event.
Polar Bear Pitching is part of the bigger Midnight Pitch Fest start-up event being held in Oulu, Finland, on the 12th-13th June 2014. Midnight Pitch Fest was organized last year in August for the first time. It attracted over 1200 participants, 70 start-ups, 50+ invertors, and visionary key note speakers.
