The Norwegian company EyeLife AS establishes a software development office in Oulu.
EyeLife AS, a company based in Narvik (Norway), establishes a software office in Oulu, the Capital of Northern Scandinavia. Tuomo Liedes is employed as the Chief Software Development Engineer and is responsible for the establishment, development and production of software applications for the company.
“Oulu has one of the strongest competencies within software and hardware development in the world, and this is therefore an unique opportunity for EyeLife. We have met several highly skilled candidates the past few months and we have now selected Tuomo Liedes to head up the entity in Oulu. BusinessOulu has been instrumental in assisting with our establishment, and their professional service orientation for business establishment is simply impressive. They have the right focus for companies like EyeLife and we have felt welcome from day one”, states Rune Nystad who is the CEO of EyeLife AS.
Tuomo Liedes has more than 20 years of software and leadership experience from Nokia and Microsoft. He has worked within several cross-functional areas in cell phone development and has also managed engineering departments at both companies. This competency is a great fit to the needs of EyeLife.
Tuomo states this about the opportunity: “The plan is to build the Oulu team on experience and knowledge of ex-Microsoft and ex-Nokia software engineers. Our intention is especially to reuse user interface and usability competence that Nokia has developed for low end cell phones in Oulu.”
“We would like to thank EyeLife for their decision to establish an entity in Oulu. We consider their fast decision, from consideration to final decision of establishment, very positive. This establishment is a true example on how we, in the arctic area, can strengthen the local businesses by merging existing competencies”, states an excited Juha Ala-Musula, manager for BusinessOulu.
“We will give Tuomo sufficient time to create a skilled and talented development and production team in Oulu. We will move forward with enough speed so we manage to launch the first products in 2016. Our company in Oulu will focus in 2 main areas: Development and production of software for ultrasound display on touchscreen monitors and development and production of software programs in order to integrate with current systems at hospitals and private medical facilities. We will continue to hire personnel and Tuomo will manage this process going forward”, continuous Nystad.
EyeLife is working with the development of portable wireless ultrasound equipment for the medical space. The image is transferred wireless and can be displayed on a touchscreen monitor on a cell phone, tablet and a pc. Some of the key value propositions are improved picture quality, introduction of an intuitive user interface, improved flexibility and significant price reductions in comparison to current available ultrasound devices.
The company has previously established offices in Narvik (Norway) and Boca Raton in Florida (USA). The main activities at these locations are product development, production and global distribution and sales of ultrasound equipment for medical diagnostic purposes.
EyeLife´s targeted customer groups are medical personnel working in hospitals like anesthesiologists, cardiologists, interns, obstetrics and other qualified personnel within the medical segments. The products are also intended for doctors working within the field of family practice, physical therapists, medical personnel at nursing homes, ambulances and the private consumer market.
The company is scheduled to launch the first products in 2016. The global portable ultrasound market is estimated to 1.3 Billion with an annual growth of 16%.
