World Press Photo Exhibition´12 in Oulu, Finland at 10.1.-31.1.2013

The World Press Photo Exhibition can be seen from 10.Jan.2013-31.Jan.2013 in Oulu’s City Library-Provincial Library /Oulun kaupunginkirjasto-maakuntakirjasto in Oulu. This traveling exhibition, unique in its kind, is the result of a worldwide annual contest on press photography and is brought to Oulu with the support of City of Oulu. The exhibition will be officially opened by Samu Forsblom, head of events in the City of Oulu.

Oulu is the Capital of Northern Scandinavia and therefore natural venue for exhibition. Good flight connections via Helsinki and Stockholm make Oulu easy to reach as well as the Northern atmosphere make Oulu interesting to visit.

Each year, an independent international jury, consisting of nineteen members, judges the entries in nine different categories, submitted by photojournalists, agencies, newspapers and magazines from all corners of the world. This year’s competition attracted 5,247 photographers from 124 countries. In total 101,254 images were entered in the contest.

The annual exhibition is shown this year at about 100 venues all over the world. This year’s exhibition contains over 160 photographs. It is an annual public showcase for photojournalism comprising the year’s winning photo, together with award-winning images from each of the nine contest categories.
