Julkaistu 06.08.2013

Companies from Oulu, the Capital of Northern Scandinavia, will participate at ONS Norway 2013, the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) oil and gas exhibition in Stavanger. ONS in Stavanger is one of the important meeting places of the oil and gas industry, along with the exhibition Offshore Europe in Aberdeen, and the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, ONS is arranged annually with altered focus, the global ONS, and the local ONS Norway.
This year’s ONS Norway is an arena for suppliers on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) to showcase products and services.
The ONS Norway 2013 is taking place 19 – 21.August.
Innovation and technology will be the key themes.

Five companies from Oulu are exhibitors at the ONS Norway 2013.The representatives of the BusinessOulu companies on will be looking for potential customers for the northern Finnish know-how.

There is greater focus on IT at ONS Norway 2013, which in particular is of interest for Oulu, for example wireless solutions for oil and gas fields.

The Oulu companies are interested in getting involved in both the development of the new discoveries, and to serve the operations of the oil and gas fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). Operations of the Snøhvit, and Goliat fields as well as development of the new discovery as the Aasta Hansteen, Johan Castberg and the Norvarg fields, are good examples of potential future business opportunities. These fields are all located in the Barents Sea area of the NCS and can be significant construction projects in the future. These northern fields are relatively close to the Oulu region This year the Norwegian Government announced the South Eastern Barents Sea available for exploration drilling. The opening of this new acreage on the NCS, right up to the delimitation line with Russia, brings the offshore petroleum activities closer than ever before. to Finland and the Oulu region. The trend in Norway is that the activities now moves to new regions in north.
"ONS Norway is a very important event to create contacts and possible cooperation. The investments in petroleum sector in Norway are at its highest, and moving north. The business potential in Norway is high. So far, Finnish know-how is not known very well in Norway, which is why co-operation is still small. Finns, however, are considered to be reliable trading partners in Norway. Our culture is Nordic and geographically we are Norway's neighbor. So far, our expertise, our workforce and potential marketing has been limited in Norway" says Pirkko Taskinen, Storvik & Co AS.

"Even though there is less oil and gas industry expertise, we have a lot of knowledge of traditional manufacturing, construction and service provider especially in the ICT sector," she says.

"In northern Finland we think that the growth is on the horizon the next few years in nearby areas of Norway, Sweden and Finland, investments in oil, gas and mining industries. In part, this market is open infrastructure for our expertise in global growth opportunities. It is important to develop the competitiveness of Oulu’s ICT industry’s know-how” says Jukka Olli, the Senior Advisor, Business Development at BusinessOulu.

“The amount of construction in Norway is enormous. Norway is short of products and capacity, and Norwegians still knows too little about Finnish capabilities. The ONS Norway exhibition is an excellent place to present Finnish technologies, know how, expertise and capacities to the petroleum industry in Norway. And it is essential to make contacts and find opportunities for cooperation for the industries of the whole Northern Finland, Pirkko Taskinen to continue.

She thinks that it is important to be involved in the event ourselves telling what we have to offer. Many small companies have challenges to get projects alone. Companies together will get more attention in the event. There will also be Storvik & Co representatives’ to inform about Finnish know-how on the Arctic Europe stand during the whole exhibition.

The following companies will participate at ONS Norway 2013 with Business Oulu: Blastman Robotics Ltd., Capriocde OY Kymppi –Eristys OY OY SteelDone Ltd. and SWECO Industry Oy. In addition, the Barents Center Finland, Enersense International OY Kokkolanseudun Kehitys Oy and Rovaniemen Kehitys Oy are participating.
