Japanese Company Purchases Experts from Oulu - 27.07.2010

The Japanese Renesas Electronics assures that it is specifically purchasing experts from Nokia and also Oulu.

In the beginning of July, Renesas and Nokia published an agreement, according to which Renesas is purchasing some 1,100 engineers from Nokia for around 200 million dollars. Of these engineers, 640 are based in Finland, the majority of which, or 460, are based in Oulu.

Manfred Schlett, Director of Renesas Electronics’ European Mobile Platform Centre in Germany notes that the deal has not yet been finalized.
Matters have progressed to the degree that, according to Mr. Schlett, the authorities are not expected to put up any roadblocks and the deal should be finalized during the fourth quarter of this year.

“July is a quiet month in Finland with most of the people on vacation. We expect new questions to crop up in August and September”, says Mr. Schlett.

However, he suggests that the work of the R&D engineers from Oulu will be needed in the future.
“We are not purchasing just technology; what is essential is that we are specifically acquiring R&D professionals. This kind of expertise is very rare in the world. It is quite possible that the Oulu engineers form one of only five groups with the skills and capacity to perform the tasks we need to in the future”, concludes Mr. Schlett.
