Oulu footpaths and cycle paths are the most satisfactory in Europe, say residents - 20.07.2010
It is official: cycle paths in
Oulu are at the top of the European league, at least as far as local residents themselves are concerned. This is demonstrated by the Eurobarometer survey published in July.
Respondents in Oulu were the most satisfied Europe-wide with their recreation opportunities. Footpaths and cycle paths in particular were pleasing to Oulu residents: 95% of respondents were highly satisfied or rather satisfied with them.
In terms of sports venues, Oulu ranked second in Europe. A total of 89% of respondents in Oulu were satisfied with sports halls and fields available in Oulu, as opposed to 92% in Helsinki. Residents of Naples showed the most dissatisfaction with their sports venues, while Athens apparently has the worst pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
In cultural services, Oulu ranked slightly above the average, between Malmö and Strasbourg. Concert halls, museums and libraries were appreciated by 90% of Oulu respondents.
The Eurobarometer survey, conducted last autumn, polled residents of 75 cities in EU Member States, Croatia and Turkey concerning recreation opportunities and cultural services.
