Children’s music jazzes up the Rotuaari-day - 15.07.2010

The Rotuaari day is celebrated on Saturday 17th July. It is the last day of the Rotuaari picnic and also the first children’s music event. Almost all children's music line ups from Oulu, at least 7 bands, are performing in the spirit of busking. A part of the profits is given to the SOS Children’s Village in Vihanti to buy musical instruments. The companies on Rotuaari have also made donations to the Children's Village.

Kyösti Salmijärvi from the band Soiva Siili, who is organizing the children’s music event, explains that the idea for the event has been around for a while, and now the time was right. According to Salmijärvi, the quality of children's music in Oulu is good. Teacher training and long tradition can be given credit for this.

Rotuaari's anniversary is also celebrated on Saturday and the Rotuvaari title is to be given for the 25th time. The title can be given to a person, who has been active in the centre of Oulu and has been important in developing it.
