Proventia Emission Control ShowTruck to set off for Central Europe - 11.05.2010
The Proventia Emission Control truck sets off from market place in Oulu on 12 May 2010 heading for Central Europe.
The truck is a showroom on-wheels, presenting
Proventia solutions for achieving increasingly strict on-road and off-road emissions restrictions. The reduction of exhaust emissions from on-road traffic and off-road machinery is a topical issue in Finland.
The event, which is open to the public, provides an opportunity to get acquainted with emissions control technology and, through practical examples, the efficiency of Proventia purifiers. We will demonstrate how clean vehicle or work machinery can be when using modern technologies. The truck itself is a 2006 model but, as far as emissions go, it is cleaner than the Euro V truck that complies with current requirements.
After the presentation in
Oulu, the truck will embark, via Helsinki, on a tour of Central Europe, presenting Finnish exhaust gas cleaning technology; for example, in the Low Emission Zones of Denmark and Germany. The destination of Proventia’s ShowTruck is Central Europe.
Over 40 cities in Germany alone have established so-called Low Emission Zones (LEZs). Only vehicles complying with emissions restrictions have free access to these areas. The German road toll system for heavy-duty vehicles is based on a vehicle emissions classification and low emission vehicles get reductions in road tolls. Finland’s neighbouring countries—Norway, Sweden and Denmark—also have cities with existing emissions regulations on heavy-duty traffic. Finland does not yet have areas based on emissions restrictions.
“Proventia has a decade’s worth of experience in international retrofitting projects aimed at improving air quality. We have delivered tens of thousands of purifiers to major Asian cities as well as for projects in California and Denmark. Proventia’s products are developed and tested in our engine & emission laboratory in Oulunsalo, and they comply with even the strictest emissions restrictions in a cost-effective manner. Increasingly strict emissions restrictions have rapidly opened up European markets, not only for retrofitting of heavy-duty traffic but also for factory fittings in the off-road markets. This is why our ShowTruck is heading for Central Europe,” says Jari Lotvonen, COO of Proventia.
“Before embarking on the journey, we wish to present the people of Oulu with top competence in the area and speak out for clean air also in our home country and home city,” adds Lotvonen. The latest emissions control technologies displayed in the truck’s showroom include Proventia’s particle emissions reducing filters and SCR systems for the effective reduction of NOx emissions.
The truck’s route will take it first to the Parliament House in Helsinki, where members of the parliamentary Traffic and Communications, Environment committees and the Committee for the Future have the opportunity, on Friday 21 May, to acquaint themselves with emissions reduction technology. After this the vehicle will be tested at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and then continue its journey at the turn of May and into June through Sweden to Denmark and Germany.
The chairman of the Traffic and Communications Committee, Martti Korhonen, MP, will give a speech at the public presentation event on 12 May at 11.30 am. The timetable of the presentation event: 9.30 am – 11 am Invited guests and media, 11 am – 1 pm Public event
